Do any women actually wear silk nightgowns?

In the movies or on television, it seems the wife or girlfriend is always wearing a cute, silky nightgown to bed. Most women I know only wear a nightie to bed if they are trying to impress their man. Any ladies wear a nightie every night?

I don't always wear a cute nightie but i do a lot and when i am not i still wear cute pj's. It makes me feel cute when i wake up and it seems i start my day off better when i feel better about myself.

not every nite, but often..love the way it feels on my skin.

Honestly there is nothing hotter than a gf/spouse in a plain old t-shirt... very sexy everytime...

no we like to be comfortable in bed like you guys but if we know the nights going to be "special" yes we usually have an outfit or two like that laying around to spice things up

i have a silk leopard print dressing gown and that's about it

I don't wear anything lately although I do have a lot to choose from; and if I did buy a nightgown, it wouldn't be made of silk because silkworms are boiled alive to obtain it.

What if you caught jesus in your bedroom wearing a silk nightgown?

would you play it off like you arent seeing him in a silk nightgown

or would you offer him some tea and criskets?

I would tell him to take it off immediately. Show some respect man!

I'd be more interested in finding out what HE had in mind. As long as he wasn't there for any foul play, I'd go with the flow.

It would bother me more that a dead man was in my room than that he was wearing my nightgown.

But I guess I'd offer him a cappuccino and see if he wanted to watch "Dogma" with me.

.

What if you went to sleep and in the next instant woke up, burning in Hell and knew this is where you would be for all eternity? Would you be surprised?

that is a moronic question to an improbable event of which there is no need

I would pretend to be calm, offer to make him some tea, and then call the cops when he was waiting for it.

Kinky Jesus. I love it.

I see you opened another account after being kicked off earlier.

i would offer him a cup of herbal tea and ask if him if he were comfortable

Why is a moo mooo nightgown called a moo moo?

Just wondering!

it's from the Hawaiian word for dress. Mumu is pronounced moo moo.

It is a Hawaiian word.

because people that wear them are as big as a cow... MOOOO Mooooo....

cause you always see morbidly obese women wearing them cause they cant fit right into normal clothes. moo moo like a cow.

It's called a mumu, not a "moo moo". A mumu is a style of hawaiian dress. Nightgowns called mumus are in a similar style to the hawaiian dresses they're named after.

to hide girth in large women who resemble COWS

I think it's because its for big people, (sorry to say it so bluntly), maybe its referred to as a cow? (sorry again, Im really sorry for making this sound so mean)

what do u mean????

Question for the ladies: How many women wear or would wear pantyhose and a nightgown at night for their man?

How many men think this is hot looking ? My man loves

legs and butt in pantyhose and it is better than stockings which

leaves the butt uncovered in nylon. The crotch can always be cut

out when needed for activity.

That's just the way I wear pantyhose to bed for fun, sometimes with a bodysuit

very hot.

I make it even easier and sleep naked.

If thats what he wanted then thats what he shall receive. I think just being nude or a nice satin gown w/nothing else would be alot sexier as long as you have shaved your legs...lol

nothing. it all comes off right after anyways...lol

Ewww that would be so uncomfortable, men are total pervs they get off on the weirdest stuff,(mine too). You totally wonder where they get these ideas.

How often do you wash your nightgowns....?

How oftend do you wash your nightgowns....should I wash my nylon nightgown after wearing it for two nights? (It is 97% nylon 3% spandex)

After three wears then it goes in the dirty clothes to be washed once

a week.

I change mine every 2 nights, and wash them the next day i have plenty so if for some reason i can't get to wash them the next day i have plenty to use.

Assuming that you shower every day, a fresh nightie every second night seems about right. That's what I do anyway.

Atleast once a week.

once after 2 or 3 nights is ok..depends on ur body..like me.. i dnt sweat at all... so depends on u...

In the movie "The Breakup," Jennifer Aniston comes out in a white silk nightgown, who made that?

I know that Carol Oditz is the Costume Designer, but I was wondering if anyone recognized it. It looked like a simple white silk or satin, above knee length, nightgown. My fiance liked how it looked some I'm on the hunt for it. Can anyone help?

Silk or satin worms made it. I would suggest buying some and make them your slaves, just make sure that you give them the proper measurements. I tried to have the worms make my dog a jock strap, but the ended up calling their cousins the heart worms and killed my dog.

There was a line in a movie.."stella, that nightgown is very flammable" what is the movei?

From an old movie about one mean sister and one weak sister...mean sister was approaching weak sister with a lighted match threatening to set fire to her nightgown

Wouldn't be "A Streetcar Named Desire" by any chance...

Actually I just found out that the movie is most likely "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080120061213AAGpisT&kid=FpcuWzHoVTVWxAhq24T54WeglLGicLts3K3gfRbDxQ.FxEKEkRtR&s=comm&date=2008-02-19+16%3A57%3A31&.crumb=

I would have guessed "Streetcar" too, because of the name Stella, but your description sounds more "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" with Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.

What was the name of the music played during the nightgown event of miss universe 2007?

the song is give it to me but it is timberland Ft. Nelly furtado and justin timberlake

I'm pretty sure it was Sean Paul ft. Keyshia Cole "Give It Up to Me." I think that was the evening gown part.

i think it was give it up to me by sean paul

Nightgown vs. nightie-what is the difference?

I crossdress and was on the phone with my friend telling her that I am going to buy my self a nightgown, and she said that, nightgowns are old fashioned, I should instead get a nightie. What is the difference between the two?

one's hot and one's not!!!

Really, I didn't think there was any difference, other than different words.

To me a nightgown is an old ankle length frumpy thing worn by grannies, victorians and Ebenezer Scrooge. A 'nightie' is a modern short nightdress in pretty colours and about thigh length.

a night gown is like a dressing gown, only like the ones your grandma wears. a nightie, you wear the same way you would usually wear pajamas, only instead of pants and a top, it's a dress. usually better worn in summer, or if you can't get to sleep if your too hot.

if i were you, i'd get the nightie- definately.

but, to be honest, i'd just ask your friend what she meant, or just act clueless and say 'but whats the differance?!?'

you could always say to her 'i prefer the nightgown. but would draws you towards the nightie?' she'll probably give you detail towards the similarities, diffferancies and pros and cons.

Nightgowns are long and elegant... nighties are hot and sexy!!! (teddies, babydolls)

lol your grandma wears a nightgown, and victorias secret models wear nighties, youre silly :-P

A girl in a white nightgown has a dream that a baby is playing with something bloody. She looks down and realizes in-between her legs on her white nightgown is a big bloody spot.

What movie is this?

I am giving a couple of guesses:

The Devil's Advocate

Rosemary's Baby

Nightmare on Elm Street (the one with Patricia Arquette)

i believe it's the devil's advocate.

I just watched a movie called Haunting Sarah where the mother had a was dreaming about a baby and when she awoke she was bleeding.

I saw that. Exorcist? One of the killer Chucky movies? (child's play?)

Where can I get a LONG SHEER WHITE NIGHTGOWN ?

I am a virgin and I am getting married in April, and I really wanted to wear a long sheer white nightgown on my wedding night, but I can't find one, so does anyone know where I can find one ?

Details:

-I am 24 and getting married in April 07

-I want a long sheer white nightgown, perferable with long sleeves

Thank you for your help :)

Consider getting a nightgown with a long sleeved negligee. That is what women used to wear. I've never seen a long sleeved sheer nightgown by itself.

This would be a nightgown with spaghetti straps, and the negligee would also be sheer, full and flowing, and possibly tie at the neck, or have just 2 or 3 tiny buttons near the neckline. Very romantic looking! Women in movies years ago wore them.

Go to a big dept. store and ask if they have anything like that, or could order one for you.

Best wishes to you! I hope you have a long and happy marriage!

I wouldn't do the long sleeves. It's going to be way too much hassle. You should find an elegant white gown with thin straps and opt for a sheer or elegant silk white robe to go with it.

Congratulations!!!!

try Macy's or go online and look

Lord and Taylor

try fredericks.com

I found one on there but it wasn't long sleeve.

Try Dillards if you have one where you live, they have a very nice lingerie department

check out the online adult shops... they usually have sections for wedding nights... and they always have white. and will be delivered in a few days

I know that a fashion designer is kind of similar to a fashion merchandiser. What are the differences?

Two occupations fashion design and fashion merchandising are similar, but not exactly alike. Do you know the difference between the two.

My major is not fashion, it's either engineering or math.

two totally separate careers. a designer designs the clothing from sketch to finish. a merchandiser works for a store a dresses store mannequins or windows

In simple terms, I believe that a designer is responsible for the actual creation of the clothing, wheras the the merchandiser is responsible for the overall display and presentation (either to the buyers or to the consumers.)

Well quite simply, ones a clothes maker and the other is a clothes seller Or if you like ones a manufacturer and ones a shopkeeper

How can you become a fashion designer or model?

I'm only in 6th grade, but I have a knack for fashion. I've always wanted to be a fashion designer or model, and now's the time to make my dream come true. Please tell everything you know.

You CAN start preparing to be a model right now. Anyone who tells you differently knows not what they are talkinga bout. Clueless at best. I am guessing that you must be around the age of 11. So you can start taking care of your skin, hair, your body. Practice posing in the mirror. Modeling isn't all about being pretty. Some of the ugliest girls are very successful models and you know why because they know how to transform. How tall are you? How is your weight? Are you real, real thin? Are you atleast 5'7 for your age. Models are usually 5'8- 6 foot with some exceptions but agencies will take a girl your age who is 5'7 because she is still growing in some agencies opinions. What everyone tells you and what an agent might tell you are two totally different things my dear. If you are 5'2 right now, you might not be able to become a model. If you can get to the height of atleast 5'6 by the time you are 13 you will have a good chance, and with the right look. Whatever that is supposed to mean. Try learning all the different modeling agencies, the models and designers. What are the fashion capitals? Where do you live? Are you willing to travel? You can go to models.com for information on agencies in your city. But if you aren't in a big City you will eventually have to either live in a model house in that city and you do have to pay. I will warn you not to think you are going ot be a supermodel over night. You might not even become one at all. But you might become a supermodel at the same time. Its a real, real tough industry and it can either make you or break you. Seriously...Watch out for scams because there are a lot of scams out here waiting to prey on young girls like you so whatever you do you gotta take your parent with you. Also, remember if any agent tells you to pay or get naked RUN, RUN, RUN!!! As far as models.com, I do not recommend you joining the forums and speaking with any of the stage moms and other idoits. Don't post any pics up there either. I have NEVER in my life posted a picture up there because I don't need their approval as a source for me beginning my career like those other folks do. Trust, their UGLY daughters can say what they want about someone but when someone talks about their UGLY daughter it is a different story. So, I suggest you just go on there and search and not interact with those jobless sad people lol. This is for fashion modeling

You can actually start sending out to an agency once you hit 13 years old.

Okay... as for Fashion Design. You need to start drawing. Study the fashion magazines as well. Learn about Croquis, the fashion figure, whats in whats not. I recommend Fashion Sketchbook by Bina Abling and 9 Heads. There are a ton of fashioin books out here but those two ar eth eones that helped me. I have a couple of more fashion books as well but those two are the best. You can also learn to sew meanwhile. Try to find the different fashion schools F.I.T. Fashion Institute of Technology. Cheap. I take a course there now. I finished college in Business Management with a Bachelors Degree so now I am just focusing on my career. I used to go to Parsons School of Design but they are crazy expensive. If you can afford it. GO!! I love that school. Both are in New York City. You can also try FIDM in California. This is when you get older. For now, try to find different afterschool programs that are dedicated to drawing. You can also learn by yourself. A lot of designers were self taught and did not go to school. A lot of them did go to school. Its about how good you are and not where you learned and developed your skill. You are only in the 6th grade so if I were you I will just focus on learning how to draw fashion figures and clothing. I would also try a little bit of sewing but not right now. Study the magazines. You can prepare to go to a Fashion High School. I just know of Fashion Industries High School in New York City. Just focus on drawing for now and learning who the different designers are, where they went to school etc... Knowledge is power and its very impressive. Do the same thing for modeling as far as learning about the different agencies and the different models and how they got started. Some of them went from rags to riches. Some of these stories of Fashion Designers and Models are very inspirational. Its very funny how you see so many girls on America's Next Top Model talking about they want to be a Model and they know NOTHING about the Fashion Modeling Industry. They don't know any of the designers, barely any of the models. Its really sad how these girls have a distored view of the modeling industry.

Who knows, if you ever become a famous model you can just use your status to have your own clothing line. I mean, I honestly don't believe its being a REAL fashion designer but at the same time you are still living out your dreams and you will be able to model your own clothing. Something I wanted to do way back when. Now I am just focusing on designing.

P.S. When and if you become a model watch out for all of the pressure. There is a lot of drugs and sex and all kinds of things in this industry and its a dog eat dog industry. It can eat you up and spit you out, keep on moving like you never existed. There is a lot of back stabbing. This is for Fashion Designing too. So I just wanted you to be aware so that if anyone pressures you to do anything you are smart enough not to. No matter what. No matter what anyone promises you.

Best Wishes and Good Luck!!

Yes, you are young, but that's good, it gives you plenty of time to learn some of the skills you need. First, models only wear clothes, designers are the ones who get to make the clothes and have fun with fabric and clothes. You have plenty of time to make your dreams come true, and you still have time to be a kid. Most established designers didn't start their businesses until they were in their twenties MINIMUM, most are in their 30's. There no rules that says you have to have your first line in stores by the time your sixteen or you'll never be a designer, that's simply false. some skills needed to be a real designer are only taught in college because they are so difficult to learn if the student is too young.

There are things you can do to begin your journey now. Begin your journey by learning to make clothes. You don't need to plunge in by designing evening gowns from scratch, just customize store bought clothes and make simple items such as t-shirts, skirts, shorts, etc. from patterns that they sell at the fabric stores. A simple pattern worked in high quality fabric will give you something interesting to wear and if you add details or embellishments you can also showcase your creativity. Sewing is something many designers begin at a young age and it's a useful skill no matter what you become when you are grown up. I began hand sewing at six and I was allowed to use the machine at nine. By grade nine I sewed about half of my school clothes. As you get better at sewing and making clothes expand your skills and challenge yourself. Try making a coat, or maybe a grad dress. Sew things for friends and family and if anyone asks, advertise yourself proudly. Some high schools have fashion design and sewing programs. At the least, try and take several art and sewing classes in high school. Work with your guidance department and learn everything you can about design schools. They will teach you how to take your sewing ability and raw creative potential and turn it into real fashion designs skills. They will also teach pattern making, design by draping, some basics of fashion business and many things that are an important part of a design business that aren't featured on The Hills or other fashion based reality shows on TV. When you get a degree from one of these schools, at the correct age, then the entire fashion world is open to you.

You can't get too much into the business until you are older, rules and regulations prevent children under 18 from owning big businesses. But you can have a small cottage business selling to family and friends, until you are older. Don't be in too much of a rush, the foundation of skills you build now will only make you a better designer as you get older. You have whole life ahead to make your dreams come true.

If you want to be a designer, start designing now! It's never too early to start. I wanted to design jewelry when I was younger and never pursued it, and now that I'm 21 and trying to establish a jewelry business, I really wish I started when I was younger. Work on some ideas, see if your school can help you with maybe working with a designer/clothing company/etc. for a day, take pictures of everything you make, or every unique outfit that you put together to use as a design/styling portfolio someday. When you're older, look into a fashion school. FIT and FIDM are the big schools, but there's plenty others. Take art classes; they help. Again, you're never too young to start.

Well, you can start preparing to be a designer, but you can't to be a model. To be a model, either you have the right height, body type and facial features or you don't. Nothing you can do will change that.

For designing, see if there are any fabric stores in your area offering sewing classes. I started taking sewing classes at 12 and made a lot of my own clothing in high school. Get a sewing machine and practice, practice, practice. Start making your own clothes, then make clothes for your friends. If people like them, then approach local clothing stores to see if they will take any of your pieces on consignment - it means you don't get paid unless the clothes sell, or you have to take them back

Then start looking into fashion schools like FIT and Parsons now to see what their admissions requirements are so you can start preparing now. You'll know what sort of GPA you need, which elective classes you need to take, what sort of portfolio or clothing samples you need to submit, etc and have enough time to perfect it. You'll be in a better position than a 17 year old who wants to go and has to scramble to put together a portfolio without having any experience designing

I'm not really a model but many people in my school say's that i am very fashionable and i do fashion art design.... to be a model look up a talent agency at you local area and may have to ask you're parents......i'm planning on doing dance/choreography and i have sign up a talent agency after i get out of school ... i'm a 12th grade....when you get to high school in the future you do alot before you ever do modeling or fashion designing ...you may have yo go to college because is hard to look up jobs for fashion design that happen to me before but yess try to do that ....because is maybe the right to do it in you future.

What do fashion designers or custume designers need to do their work?

Because i have to research what fashion or costume designers will buy from a shop to make a dress or whatever. what materials would they need, like the different types of cloth, needles, threads. Please tell what more do they need?

In shop work we have two types of supplies, on hand non job specific and supplies purchased specifically for a particular job.

On hand non job specific supplies include pins, needles, threads, zippers in many colours and lengths, hooks and eyes, basic buttons, interfacings in all weights, china silk for linings, and cotton muslin for making test garments to fine tune design and fit. These are often purchased from warehouses or wholesalers in large lots. I buy rolls of interfacings and linings, never two yards here or three yards there...I always buy a whole roll. For thread I buy long staple polyester on 5000 meter cones, it cheaper to buy in large quantities. Pins come in one pound boxes, stainless steel longs, also known as "dorcas dressmaker pins". Dorcas refers to the length, I have no idea where the term came from. I also have a good supply of fashion fabrics on hand, from rolls of silks to odd lots of whatever catches my eye to leftovers from previous jobs.

Then I also have job specific purchases. For example right now I'm making a bunch of special shirts for a local eatery. For these pieces I needed to buy a few rolls of black cotton spandex, several rolls of lace, and stretch bindings. Another job might include special notions such as hook and eye tape, steel boning, special fabrics, dyes, it depends. I have a few fabric swatch books from suppliers of evening fabrics, dupionis and shantungs, crepe satins, that sort of thing. I can order direct for wholesale prices rather than go to the fabric store and buy retail. For costly fabrics I will make the dress up in cotton muslin and perfect the fit and design and then take the cotton with me to the outlet so I buy no more than I need. For something like re-embroidered brocades that start at 150$ a meter, you don't buy more than you need and you don't waste an inch.

Most dress shops and costume shops operate that way, combining on hand basics with job specific purchases. We almost always we buy in large quantities as it's cheaper that way. We almost always hang on to everything, like scraps, leftover buttons, we never know when it's going to come in useful again. Costume shops will often hold onto costumes and recycle them into new costumes; the Shakespeare Festival shop in Stratford often uses and reuses costumes from previous seasons to make current season's costumes. Here's a little page describing the festival's costume warehouse. http://www.frugalfun.com/costumewhouse.html also the next site is one used by costume shops, there might be something interesting there for you: http://www.costumes.org/

What fashion show hair and makeup should I do?

I am in a fashion show this Friday and we are doing our own make up. There are six different scenes with different themes. They are: 80's house party.

High Fashion

Business

Race Car/Nascar

Evening Wear

Rock and Roll

It's a fashion show so things can be big and outrageous too!

well from your details I'm not completely sure if you're going to be in it as in walking as a model and rocking all these different looks, because if so then you won't have time for make up changes.

anyway,

HF- thick liquid eyeliner and smokey eye

B- regular, natural looking makeup with heavy mascara and maybe they should wear some business-person like glasses?

RC/N- white eyeshadow and accent the eyes

EW-nothing special but natural looking makeup and maybe some heavy blush and brown eyeshadows

R&R- go all out with different radical eyeshadows and make it heavy and apparent. use eyeshadow to cover the ENTIRE eye lid and thick liquid eyeliner on top lid and extend beyond the eye.

try this:

http://www.youtube.com/user/makeupgeektv?blend=1&ob=0

80's house party - Teased Crimped hair, bright lip stick, blue or pink fun eyeshadow

High Fashion - sleak back hair, smokey eyes

Business - sleak back hair, simple makeup with a sharp eye

Race Car/Nascar - pony tail, keep makeup cute and sexy

Evening Wear - curls, makeup should be formal

Rock and Roll - anything you want

rock and roll baybe!!!

:)

return the favor?

How can i meet someone important in the fashion industry?

I am trying to get noticed in the fashion world so i can become a stylist/cosmetologist/fashion designer, but i just don't know how to do it. I live in California and i'm planning on going to a fashion school next year. I was inspired by Lauren Conrad(the hills), she got an opportunity that rarely comes. I guess it's really not what you know, but who you know.

Go to fashion week and sneak into a runway show. It's not hard to talk the people to let you in.

Lots of important fashion industry people will be there.

Don't be a pest but if given the chance introduce yourself to some people

Friends of mine have gotten internships from doing this

If you can't sneak in hang out right outside the show

Find a current liberal social issue, make 100 picket signs and travel to Washington DC.

You'll find many of them yelling and making asses of themselves about one thing or another in between runway events.

I want to be a fashion designer- which books should I start reading/studying to really understand fashion?

For a long time now I've wanted to be a fashion designer, or stylist. I already read fashion magazines, but they don't provide much in the way of history, etc. Which books would you suggest to a teenager who wanted to understand the history and ways of fashion and fashion design?

I wanted to become a fashion designer, but after I did some research, I realized about 1% out of 99 make it ANYWHERE. They usually try and start there own clothing line which fails, or start there own botique that fails. Most just end up at a cash register in Victoria's Secret for 20 years untill they realize they arent going anywhere and change there career. I would advise you NOT to go into this industry unless you are REMARKABLY talented. There ARE lot of talenented people, but you have to be a fashion genius to get anywhere. If you still like fashion, makeup, etc. find a niche market in something and creat your own new trend or product. Or just become a makeup artist.

I'm sorry to slap you so hard in the face, but I know you will regret it if you become a fashion designer.

Good Luck!

Start getting some sewing lessons. I know you want to be a designer, but this will help you understand the technical part of designing: a persons body, structure, seams, fabric textures and colors. Trust me, it will help you a lot. And its tons of fun!

Also, just get some books a the library, magazines, watch project runway, and what not to wear. Hope this helps!

Honestly, start watching Project Runway on BRAVO.

It is inspiring and gives you an idea what the business is like.

What fashion design game is best for a young child on the Nintendo DS Lite?

My daughter is five and her big brother has DS that she really loves. We are thinking about getting her one for Christmas. She wants a fashion design game and mentioned Imagine Fashion Designer. I want to know if that is appropriate and easy enough for her to do on her own. I would also like some other options for a fashion design game that would be good for her.

My fashion studio is more simple and easy AND fun than imagine Fashion designer, it really was HARD and all these menus for nothing.

It was a horrible game and "my fashion studio" really redeemed the company in question.

So go with "my fashion studio" not imagine fashion designer!

What are the chances of becoming a successful fashion designer?

I'm almost 17, and I'm home schooled, so i take fashion design at a local community college. I already have professional sewing skills, and i can use professional sewing equipment, like sergers, ect.. and i was wondering if this a plus since i have started so much earlier then the average wanna be fashion designer?

Also, what does it take to be a fashion designer? The clothes I make are inspired by the 60's pop art , the 80's, and some vintage styles. I like to make clothes that are really fashionable but wearable too, and i have made some handbags. Is that good enough or should i be more creative?

And where can I buy wholesale fabric and other sewing notions like zippers, buttons, thread, ect.

Any other info would be wonderful!

i don't know-- it might be tricky but you can still do it! Follow your dreams :D

What do I need to measure to make myself a nightgown?

Also, what are other pointers I need to know when making this nightgown? I'm new to sewing clothes. I've only done stuffed animals before and quilts.

Bust ,Waist and Length if you are using a pattern like you can buy a craft stores, i'm pretty sure they have step by step instructions, i know u can buy books on how to make differnt clothes at a craft store

look at the patterns and they should tell you. Personally I'd order one from Land's End

Use one that you already have, that you like, and that fits well. Lay it out on the fabric you have chosen and trace around it, leave at least 1/2" for your seam allowances. Just remember which side is inside and which side is outside:) Number your pieces if you need to, and jot them down on a sketch pad. If you've sewn other things, then a nightgown should be fairly easy for you:) About the only other pointer I could suggest is to get really soft, comfy material:) And make sure it is pre-shrunk or wash it before starting.

Good Luck!!

If you want to make a nightgown, you need to measure your arms and you need to decide how long you want the sleeves and actual nightgown to be. You should also measure how big you are around so the nightgown is not too tight or anything.

Essentially you need to measure your bust, hips, and what length you want it at. A nightgown should not be a hard task.

Perhaps you could use an existing nightgown as your template. Buy an inexpensive one that fits and has pleasing proportions then measure it or disassemble it and create your own.

Good luck

What are some different careers in the fashion industry?

While I have many other interests in life (particularly literature, social sciences, and astrophysics), I live, breath and eat fashion.

Fashion is something I would consider being involved with for my whole life, but I don't know where I should start.

In fashion, other than being a model or designer (adore that idea, but must learn to sew first), what are the different careers?

How do fashion designers forcast fashion and how many season ahead do they do it for?

I just wondered how fashion designers etc do this. I am curious as I hear about it all the time but wanted more information.

they are the ones who create the fashion, they design the trends. it's high street brands and people in advertising who do the forecasting, based on what the lovely designers give them.

they normally design a two seasons ahead. but they only come out on the catwalks one season before.

so the spring/summer collection will come out in winter. but the designers will be on the next autumn/winter collection.

The try to set the Fashion rather than forecast it

If they know a warehouse load of free blue cloth is going to be available next year -- good chance they will be trying to get everyone wearing blue

They also watch what films will be coming to the cinemas - these can influence fashion and taste too.

How can I start being a fashion and beauty girl?

I'm 13 and I love fashion and beauty, but I just don't know how to be a fashionista/ fashion and beauty girl! I'm doing this for myself, by the way! What magazines do I read, make -up, any recommended stores, clothing lines, clothes, shoes, accessories, purses (I already have a small Coach Purse), what do fashionistas obsess over (except for fashion and beauty duh!), how do they act, any recommended books (fiction or nonfiction), what do they say a lot, what celebrities are their role models, how do I get great fashionista-baby soft skin, any bedroom (bathroom) make-overs, and any other suggestions are cool! I don't want to be self-centered or mean, I am really nice actually.

Sorry, that's a lot of stuff, but I just love fashion, just don't know how to put it!

Advice would be awesome!

Read TeenVogue, it's the best way to follow the fashion trends. People and Instyle have fashion updates for people your age sometimes. Keep your make-up safe, and clean with a glow that makes you the way you are. Don't make it too dramatic. Even out your make up; maybe a little bit of mascara, eyeliner, a touch of eyeshadow, a little bit of blush, and some gloss will do. Guys don't like it when girls have too much make up. I personally don't like Forever21 because their clothes are cheap material so I recommend that you shop at Nordstroms, Urban Outfitters, and H&M. Always dress according to the ocasio and weather, keep your accessories cute, never mix&match, but don't over accessorize. These days, the bigger the better. Don't carry around a dinky little purse, get your oufit to look more fabulous by carrying a purse that has a lot of room and style to it. Jeans are very important. I love Citizens of Humanity, True Religions, and William Rast jeans. Do not get jeans that are too tight. You'll get a muffin top which means that your fats goes over your jeans beacause your jeans are too tight. It was stated on E!'s 50 fashion do and don't. Make sure to keep the length right, and the butt area looking fit. I use Nu Skin, which is not a very well known brand, but it is the best. I was breaking out one time, I applyed some facial acne creame, the next day it was gone. And for your make up, go to Sephora, not MAC. MAC makes you look like a cake face. GOOD LUCK!

What is the best fashion magazine for young adults?

I recently moved to US and wants to know what the best fashion magazine is for a young adult like me. I am 23, so really cannot relate to cosmogirl or seventeen anymore. I love to dress up and follow fashion trends. I want to subscribe to a magazine where I can find the hottest hairstyle, or latest fashion on clothes, shoes or bags. I am looking for a more mature version of seventeen/cosmogirl.

Teen Vogue for sure! :)

But Seventeen is still good for young adults too, I think.

I would definitely suggest American Vogue. Vogue has been described as the "fashion bible" and is the longest running fashion magazine there is. It is also completely devoted to fashion. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080328162035AAj1xw5&kid=E5ZGAzfkMksfa91oqjzo&s=comm&date=2008-07-12+03%3A30%3A26&.crumb=

What is the difference between fashion marketing and fashion merchandising?

Im wondering because i want to be a fashion buyer, like what rachel was in friends, but which would i have to major in fashion marketing or fashion merchandising???

it doesnt really matter they both are the samething if you search for more information on the two you can be a fashion buyer for both of them and also make sure you go to a good school not one that advertise itself on tv late at night those always seem a little sketchy go to top cities like miami, los angelos, new york, chicago and parts of europe..its a risk but its a great career

I just want to add that there actually is a slight difference between the marketing and merchandising functions. If you want to do what Rachel did, go for fashion merchandising. Here is the difference: The fashion marketers work in the corporate offices and rarely have a reason to venture outside http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20071010143152AAHtUjf&kid=JY5RUlHJI3Ljit2RmX51&s=comm&date=2008-09-21+14%3A23%3A41&.crumb=

unless there's a promotional event going on or something similar. Marketers are in the field, involved in how many pieces get to which stores, whether product is moving, that kind of thing. They interact directly with retailers. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20071010143152AAHtUjf&kid=JY5RUlHJI3Ljit2RmX51&s=comm&date=2008-09-21+14%3A24%3A56&.crumb=

How is fashion important to world history?

I am doing a project on ancient Asian fashions. We have to include how fashion is important to world history and how it affected world history. Any other information on fashion and how it changed in ancient Asia ( 1000 BCE to 1600 ACE) would also be helpful. (This is a high school class.) Thank you!

It's relatively unimportant to history. However, since you have to pretend that it is, just discuss the differences between classes' clothing, the difference of religious leaders clothing, and the changes seen in mens clothing versus women's clothing. Research various cultures, and maybe you point out unique clothing like in Korea they have the traditional han bok for various customs.

Well I think fashion is very important because it describes you. It shows people who you are. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081028144935AAv52fR&kid=JZxWLEv1DzWuNlu81H.k&s=comm&date=2008-12-11+13%3A41%3A40&.crumb=

Fashion in history is important because certain clothes mean different things. From Roman times to acient Egypt to modern day even!!! Fashoin is used to establish social class, royalty, and so on. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081028144935AAv52fR&kid=IqdkDGH6DXI091ECtbWu&s=comm&date=2009-01-06+10%3A33%3A10&.crumb=

Hmmm...how fashion affects world history is hard to explain, but it's better to think about it as how social history is reflected through fashion.

Think of it as this way. When I did a project on Victorian era fashion, I included the social history part by introducing the social classes and explained how each class dressed and behaved. Then I went on with what they (men, women, and children) wore throughout Queen Victoria's reign.

You can learn from world history, about what the civilisations thought of different things at the time. You can also find out what the different classes thought were attractive and their mindset on certain issues. It affected world history because people judged people. If you weren't fashionable at the time, people would not like you as much. Also it accepts people into ceratin groups in society.

Views on people and how we use appearences to differenciate authoritive figures etc from one another and other people using stereotypical views. However through history as time has past and social views have changed these distinctive borders and distorted due to the fact that the world interchanges its appearances with different mediums of fashion, apart from the Queen attending a royal conference etc, what would she wear and how would that divide her from the rest?...it doesnt because anyone can now wear a suit or jeans or hoodys and although we still have stereotypical views based on clothes the whole concept has become disullusioned through time because of the change in social views etc

fashion is very important in history because some of the most historic people looked at fashion like a different world for them. fashion explains people, and tells about them. 4 some people, fashion is the only thing that they can make thier own.but for some people, fashion is important to history, for some people it isnt, you decide

today in france alot of fashion designers are asian so they integrate asian fashions into todays stuff

What is Fashion Merchandising and how can i get involved with it?

I really want a job in the fashion industry, and even though it sounds stupid i don't know anything about fashion. So how can i start getting involved and learning about fashion?

You need to do your research...look for fashion schools and the courses offered. The class schedule will give you an idea of what career paths are offered in that field. Some fashion houses offer apprentice positions but you have to do your research. Start taking sewing classes. Look at books to help you be able to draw simple drawings. Get on it already.

Have you ever heard of the book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill? Well, I can't remember the exact circumstance, but there's advice inthe book, about becoming an apprentice for someone high up in the company (preferably all the way up, no mid-management yo-yos here) and not get paid for it. In exchange, what you will learn will be invaluable if done right.

For your specific circumstance, you will get to know the "industry" from the back end. You'll see if you really like how things are done, how they are handled, how the true geniuses of the industry got that way, and not just because they had money and a good marketing team to back them up either.

The book is totally worth looking at. Check it out at a local Borders or something for free and you'll see what I mean.

Here's a little snippet from Amazon, btw:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/product-description/0449214923/ref=dp_proddesc_0/102-9527888-9985734?ie=UTF8&n=283155&s=books

Good luck to you :)

PS: btw, this is an old, tried and true technique. for your generation, if all this sounds like some old-person mumbo jumbo (as it sounded like that to me when i was 17 when i first heard about it), well, i think Diddy got started this way at least. i'm sure u know him ;)

http://fabsugar.com/ is the BEST website for trends, what's on sale where, where to source things. very cool...

I could really recommend you Polyvore.com. Its a website with all the latest fashion, and you have the ability to make you own collage's. It's really fun and easy if you want to create an outfit that you want to buy, because all of the clothes is in stores or in online stores. Here are a few polyvore's I made, so you get the idea:

You could try a magazines website! Like Elle or Vogue. Or even go on designers websites like Dior etc.

What do women prefer to sleep in to bed: nightgown, pjs, night shirt, nightie?

I am trying to find out what women in general wear to bed. I am a crossdresser, and have been sleeping in a see through nightie, but I dont think that most women wear that to bed every day. What is something that is girly, and comfy that I could wear everyday?

Is it comfortable to sleep in thongs or fullbacks or what?

depends-

when its just me goin for bed- i usually sleep naked but when im cold i sleep in boyshorts and a tank top

when im with my man i like to wear sexy nightgowns, babydolls, anything sexy

i dont like to sleep with thongs, they ride up my a**all the time and it hurts

when i actually wear pj's when im at my parents house its pants and a shirt, no underwear unless Ive got my period. because they are so uncomfortable to sleep in. other wise when im at my home i wear nothing, or just a night gown.

babydoll nighties (like, silky and some lace)

personally, i sleep in boxers and a tank top..but i dont think thats what you're looking for

Most of my old girl friends did the same thing so if it's not see through than just normal lingerie.

I just like some comfy pj shorts and a tank top.

i like to sleep in tank tops and my undies sometimes i wear a big t shirt to bed

nada

im thurteen i just do shorts and a tank or tee

Where can I get a knitting pattern for a girl's nightgown?

I want to knit my 6yo daughter some light cotton nightgowns for spring but I can't find any patterns. I'm looking for a simple pattern with a plain bodice and a full/swing skirt. I'd like to add my own embellishments like lace edging on the shoulder straps. But I need a plain pattern to start with. Thanks!

That's a lot of knitting, but here is a link. Good luck.

Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabrics and also Ebay

Try knitting.com or even on the DIY network, they have a knitting show that might give you some links. You might have to improvise some of it, but if you can find pieces of what you're looking for, you can put them together to make one.

Karens Variety

A large selection of new and vintage Patterns, Pattern Books, and PDF Download - crochet, knitting, cross stitch, plastic canvas, tatting, embroidery, macrame, dolls, toys, sewing, crafts. Newsletter, Free patterns. Contest

Lincraft, i live in Australia, don't know if u have that store wherever u live, and also spotlight, lol my mum shops at those places

First I'd start by looking for sun dresses instead of night gowns.

This has sleeves but you could always skip that part. Has a lacey look so would be cooler.

Here's where I found these patterns in case you're looking for any other kid patterns.

Type in Child's Dress

There is a Child's Jumper pattern that may work for you:)

try walmart's craft department or Michael's of JoAnne's crafts stores.
