Nightgown vs. nightie-what is the difference?

I crossdress and was on the phone with my friend telling her that I am going to buy my self a nightgown, and she said that, nightgowns are old fashioned, I should instead get a nightie. What is the difference between the two?

Really, I didn't think there was any difference, other than different words.

To me a nightgown is an old ankle length frumpy thing worn by grannies, victorians and Ebenezer Scrooge. A 'nightie' is a modern short nightdress in pretty colours and about thigh length.

a night gown is like a dressing gown, only like the ones your grandma wears. a nightie, you wear the same way you would usually wear pajamas, only instead of pants and a top, it's a dress. usually better worn in summer, or if you can't get to sleep if your too hot.

if i were you, i'd get the nightie- definately.

but, to be honest, i'd just ask your friend what she meant, or just act clueless and say 'but whats the differance?!?'

you could always say to her 'i prefer the nightgown. but would draws you towards the nightie?' she'll probably give you detail towards the similarities, diffferancies and pros and cons.
